Parents accepted to the SCL program contribute a nominal amount to the orthodontic treatment. It's important that all children receive the orthodontic treatment they need. Why?

Orthodontics can play an important role in a child's confidence and health. Children with misaligned teeth rarely smile, or only smile with their lips closed. They're often ridiculed - which undermines their self-confidence at a very vulnerable age. And they can suffer from overall health problems - difficulty chewing, swallowing, or speaking. It's often harder to keep their teeth clean, which can lead to periodontal disease. As an adult, advanced periodontal disease is associated with a greater risk for diabetes, stroke, heart disease, and pancreatic cancer.
